DHHS PTSA Senior Scholarships

The Dana Hills High School PTSA (DHHS PTSA) is pleased to offer a scholarship program for graduating seniors. We have 3 scholarship opportunities for seniors. In addition, our California State PTSA offers 2 scholarships for seniors (see bottom of this page).

Dana Hills PTSA Scholarship Instructions

 

DUE DATE & SUBMISSION: PTSA and Teri Lynn O’Brien scholarship applications must be
submitted by 11:59 PM on March 15th. Jack H. Prince scholarship applications must be submitted by
11.59PM on April 15 th.

 

PTSA MEMBERSHIP: Applicants must be student members of Dana Hills High School PTSA as of March 1st of the current school year. Click Here to Join Online If you need to verify your membership, please contact scholarships.dhhsptsa@gmail.com​.

GPA / TRANSCRIPTS: Login to Aeries (https://sites.google.com/a/capousd.org/parent-and-student-portal/), click on GRADES > TRANSCRIPTS. Your Academic GPA is listed as weighted (on the left) and unweighted (on the right). Your Academic GPA is based on your academic classes (not including health or P.E./sports). Report your weighted (accounts for your honors and AP classes) and your unweighted (all classes are worth 4.0 points) GPAs. Right mouse click on the page and select "print", change the destination to "Save As PDF". Save it to your computer.

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE STUDENT. Special Education students may receive some assistance in completing their forms.

NOTIFICATION: Recipients will be notified at the Senior Awards Ceremony in May. The decision of the PTSA Scholarship committee is final. Note: A scholarship award may be revoked in the event the student does not maintain the required overall GPA, if the student is subject to severe disciplinary action such as suspension or expulsion, or if the student fails to enroll in an institution of higher education.

This PTSA scholarship is to be used for continuing education at a four-year college or university, a community college or a trade/technical school.  The amount of each scholarship and the number of scholarships awarded will vary each year.  The minimum award will be $500.   

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • You must be a graduating senior at Dana Hills High School in the current school year.

  • Applicants must be student members of Dana Hills High School PTSA as of March 1st of the current school year. Click Here to Join Online

  • You must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0.

 

TO APPLY

  • Complete application including essay, transcript, reference letter and student resume with volunteer service activities.

  • If you are not a current member of DHHS PTSA, you must join. You may attach a photocopy of your PTSA membership card in lieu of PTSA membership verification.

  • The application and all attachments should be emailed to scholarships.dhhsptsa@gmail.com
    on or before March 15th.

DANA HILLS HIGH SCHOOL PTSA SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP - SPECIAL EDUCATION (Merit & Community Service)

This award recognizes the achievements of students for volunteer service in the school and/or community.


The Dana Hills High School PTSA (DHHS PTSA) is pleased to offer a Special Education scholarship for graduating seniors.  This PTSA scholarship is to be used for continuing education at a four-year college or university, a community college or a trade/technical school.  The amount of each scholarship and the number of scholarships awarded will vary each year.  The minimum award will be $500, but could be more.   
 

ELIGIBILITY

  • You must be a graduating senior at Dana Hills High School in the current year.

  • You must be a member of Dana Hills High School PTSA as of March 31.

  • You must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0.

TERI LYNN O’BRIEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Financial Need, Merit & Community Service)

The Teri Lynn O’Brien Memorial Scholarship was formed in the spring of 2010 to commemorate the life of Teri O’Brien, DHHS PTSA President from 2005-2007.  In recognition of Teri’s dedication to the students of CUSD and Dana Hills High School, and her strong commitment to education, the family and friends of Teri O’Brien have established the Teri Lynn O’Brien Memorial Scholarship.  A minimum $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior with financial need, who has demonstrated a commitment to advancing their education, maintained solid academics, and has demonstrated a commitment to their school and community through volunteer service.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Recipients are chosen from pooled DHHS PTSA scholarship applications and DHHS Local Scholarship Applications recommended by the DHHS Guidance Office.

 

The deadline for submitting the completed DHHS PTSA Application, including essay, record of volunteer service and a reference letter to the PTSA mailbox in the main office is by March 31st of the current school year.  If March 31 falls on a weekend, the applications should be turned in on the prior Friday. The application form is available below and copies are available in the Guidance Office.

JACK H. PRINCE SCHOLARSHIP

The Jack H. Prince Memorial Scholarship was established by his grandparents, Robert and Toni Nagel, to honor the life of Jack Prince. He would have been a Dana Hills 2023 graduate. 

The Nagel family is pleased to offer a $2,500 scholarship program for a DHHS graduating senior. This award recognizes the achievements of a student for academics, sports and volunteer service in the school and/or community. This scholarship is to be used for continuing education at a four-year college or university, a community college or a trade/technical school.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2023 DHHS Graduate

  • Participated in DHHS sports

  • 3.0 unweighted GPA

California State PTSA Scholarships (not DHHS PTSA)

Applications, reference forms/letters, and all supporting documents must be received in the California State PTA office by February 1 each year. All applicants are notified of their status in March. Scholarship winners receive a letter of congratulations and a recognition certificate from California State PTA along with a check. For questions and more information, please contact the California State PTA at scholarships@capta.org.

CALIFORNIA STATE PTSA - $1,000 VOLUNTEER SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship recognizes graduating seniors for their volunteer service in schools and communities, allowing them to register for courses at accredited colleges, universities, trade or technical schools. Applicants must be PTA members graduating from a California high school between January 1 and June 30 of the current academic year.

CALIFORNIA STATE PTSA - $500 DR. RALPH E. WHITE GRADUATING SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP

Honoring the volunteer and public-service legacy of Dr. Ralph E. White and his wife, Eleanor, this additional scholarship provides $500 each to two successful applicants of the Volunteer Service Scholarship who intend to pursue a career in a medical field.
